② The pay station (borne)
Pay here by card, contactless, or coins. Note the BORNE number.
How it works: first note your spot number from the pole (①) — these poles are on most commercial streets such as Saint-Laurent Blvd, Saint-Denis, Sherbrooke, etc. Then walk to the nearest pay station (②), enter your spot number, and pay by card, contactless, or coins. Or skip the walk and pay from your phone with Mobicité (below).

Free Street Parking
Free parking exists — but reading the layered French signage correctly is the hard part. Every panel on a post applies at the same time, so you have to satisfy all of them. The video below walks through the logic; the example sign underneath shows it in practice.

This is a real Montreal sign cluster — here's what it actually says. The left sign bans parking weekdays (Mon–Fri) 13h–14h. The right top sign bans it on Wednesdays 13h–14h, but only seasonally (Apr 1–Dec 1). The right bottom sign is permit-only 9h–21h — except when you pay ("sauf sur payant"), meaning a metered/Mobicité payment also lets you park. All panels apply at once.
